Gillette Sensor Razor
Razor

Both men and women use razors. Finding the perfect razor can be a really tough decision. Do you require one blade, two blades, or more? Do you need the lubrication strip? Should you use a disposable, cartridge, or safety razor? Each person has their own shaving needs and Gillette has many razors, including the Gillette Sensor razor. We will be reviewing a few Gillette razors.

It doesn’t matter how comfortable you are with hair removal, a razor aisle is an intimidating place. It’s jammed packed with so many different options and it’s difficult to know which is the best for you. All the different packages with their logos and keywords like “ergonomically modified” and “multiple blades”, make choosing a razor a complicated affair.

There are some things to know that can help you make your decision easier. The first thing to know is that not all razors and blades are created the same. The number of blades is important. You might think one blade can do the same as two, three, or even four blades, but that is not true. If you want a close, smooth shave, the higher blade count is best. Four or five is recommended.

Choose a razor that moves with your contours. Stationary blades are more likely to cut you whereas flexible blades adjust individually providing a flawless shave. An ergonomically shaped handle means the razor is easier to hold and gives you more control, also eliminating accidental cuts.

Lubrication is important. It acts as a buffer between the skin and the razor, but even with the use of shaving cream/gel, a razor with a lubrication strip helps you to avoid nicks and cuts from the skin that are overly dry. Most lubricating strips have cocoa butter and/or vitamin E, helping the skin feel extra smooth. Do you try to get the most shaves out of your razor due to either not having a new one available or just out of laziness? If you’re guilty of this, you’re not doing yourself any favors.

For those with thick or coarse hair, shaving is a daily routine, so you may find that you need to change your razor or blades more often than those with thinner hair. New blades can be expensive, but if you have to use more pressure to get a close shave, the possibility of cuts increases. It’s also time to change razors or blades if you find that you’re having to shave the same place more than once and if you have sensitive skin. Regular razor or blade changes are suggested to avoid skin irritation.

Some might think razors for men and women are the same with the only differences being in their packaging and color. However, there are some technical differences. Handle design and weight, the lubricating strip, and the flexibility of the blades are actually uniquely designed because they are intended for use on different body parts. This doesn’t mean women can’t use a razor intended for men, knees can be just as tricky as the face and neck.

What Is the Gillette Sensor Razor?

The Gillette Sensor Razor is considered a “cartridge razor”. They are perhaps the most common type due to their performance and small learning curve. Cartridge razors use a lift and cut technology to get a close shave. Since the blades will always be set at an optimal cutting angle, it is critical to know at which angle your hair grows. Going against the grain is ill-advised as the blades will cut the follicle too low beneath the skin’s surface. When the hair grows back, it is likely to curl back causing issues like ingrown hairs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, no matter what your gender, you will need to shave. Razors have come a long way since the straight razor and can be found with many different options. The razor can be disposable or reusable, have one to six blades, and have stationary or pivoting heads. Most come with lubrication strips and others offer even more with precision trimmers. The best feature in a razor besides high-quality blades is the flexible head. Stationary blade heads give a greater probability to cut yourself. The pivoting head moves with the contours of whatever area of the body you’re shaving whether it’s your face, neck, or legs. In addition, having a handle that is easy to grip helps with control and maneuverability. We liked the Gillette Sensor razor because it was easy to use with a comfortable grip and pivoting head. We had the choice of two or three blades each with a lubricating strip to lessen the irritation. The only thing we didn’t like was the price tag. For the features, we considered it high. However, the Gillette brand has some phenomenal razors for great prices. Most people nowadays use cartridge razors. When you purchase one for the first time, you get the handle and either one or two blade heads. Cartridge razors come with at least 2 blades and up to 6 blades and anything in-between. The blades use a lift and cut technology, meaning the blades transition from lifting the hair to cutting it over and over depending on the blade count. This gives a close shave and the lubricating strip keeps skin from becoming irritated. The cost differs between cartridge, disposable, and straight razors. Cartridge razors are typically in the $ to $$ range for the handle and $ to $ for each blade cartridge. For a straight razor, expect to pay around $$$ or so and the replacement blades might cost about 35 cents. Disposable razor cost depends on how many you purchase. If you are only buying one, it can cost as little as 25 cents, but it’s rare to buy disposable razors singularly. Most buy them in packs of at least three which costs about $. The safety, cartridge and disposable razors each have their pros and cons. Safety razors are cheaper in the long run and less irritating to the skin versus cartridge or disposable razors, but you will need to shave slower and more carefully or wind up with blood and stubble. They are also banned from airplanes. It is not impossible to hurt yourself with the cartridge or disposable razors, but it is harder because the cartridge holds the blades at the proper angle. Multi-blade razors can also leave your skin irritated. The Gillette Fusion5 ProGlide with Flexball technology has been stated as the best cartridge razor by users because of the five blades, a lubricating strip, swiveling ball-hinged handle, and built-in trimmer. It is also said that this razor gives you a nice close shave with less irritation than other cartridge razors. The best disposable razor as stated by users is the Gillette Mach3 because it delivers a smooth shave with its contoured handle, a lubricating strip, pivoting head, and three spring-mounted blades.
